You can do whatever you set your mind to!

These statements are so common, it is highly unlikely you have not heard of them before. You may have heard them so frequently or been presented to phrases like these in such an off-putting way, they developed a bad taste in your mouth, or at the very least, became a sarcastic and easily dismissable joke; a child’s dream.

At some point in our lives, probably in childhood, we heard “Reach For The Stars” and believed it with all our hearts. This is not to say big dreams do not happen, they do, but the incorrect belief system about how to accomplish them is what halts the process. Having a lousy mindset about success can cause poor career actions and lead people towards making a string of mistakes. Afterward, they feel stuck in their situation as if they were doomed to stay defeated.

You may have been the one who followed your dreams, finished school, landed your first incredible job at NASA and are now literally walking on the moon. On the other hand, you may have started on a more difficult journey, worked very hard, sacrificed a lot, and yet failed miserably. So now you’ve become somewhat cynical and I understand, it’s hard to have hope for success when you feel thoroughly beat down, but I have good news for you! You are the one responsible for your life and a mindset adjustment and some good-old elbow grease could be the answer. Bear with me.

The problem with statements such as “you have to want it badly enough”, is because they are not meant to be taken at face value without a specific follow-through action. In reality, you can want “it” as bad as you want to eat, but you won’t be able to feast on your achievements until you reach out and grab ahold of them. The same applies to life. You cannot take the one statement of success and use it in every situation. You have to know how to handle each of life’s curveballs accordingly. Success is there for your taking, it’s all in your hands, or rather, the actions you choose or do not choose to take. The best way to understand business principles and apply them successfully is to change your mind about how they will look when applied; develop a blueprint of goals and walk them out.

Here’s the challenge: when we are young and faced with a world of endless possibilities, we can become a little irrational in our interpretation of life’s success, subconsciously believing they come by our good intentions. Those dreams are not going to materialize alone by hoping and dreaming, or through excuses. Making excuses is the number one reason people do not succeed in life. Don’t make the same mistake.  The only answer to success is through gaining knowledge and a willingness to put in the work, to get back up when you fall down and fail.

Here are some fantastic quotes from the video “How Bad Do You Want It” which I want to share with you.

  • “Some of you love to sleep more than you love success! If you want to be successful, you’ve got to be willing to give up sleep. How bad do you want it?”
  • “I’m here to tell you, number one, that most of you say you want to be successful, but you don’t want it bad [enough]. You just kinda want it. You don’t want it as much as you want to party.”
  • “When you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe, then you’ll be successful”.

The last one says it all. No matter what your goals are, you must be willing to put in the time and discipline to achieve it. What sacrifices are you ready to make? Are you willing to stay awake and hustle during the late evening and early morning hours while others are sleeping? Are you willing to discipline your body and go on that diet you talked about for a year? Are you ready to give up a toxic relationship so you can move on and be the best and most positive influence out there? Are you willing to spend many hours alone instead of with friends to develop yourself and hold out for the rewards in the future?

Success doesn’t happen overnight. You need to commit to your goals and vow not to break them, as a life or death promise. Your willpower is the integrity of your soul. How far are you willing to go to keep your promise and create a better life for yourself and your family in the future? It’s all about having a mind of steel. Greatness and mediocrity cannot coexist. You need to be able to shield your mind from giving up no matter the challenges you encounter along your journey. It will be worth it.

Wanting success is different from being committed to and accomplishing success. For example, some people have an interest in coding and imagine themselves working as a coder and the money they would make, but take no action on it. Committed people put what they learn into action. They will practice and practice, and will make a lot of sacrifices, but are excited to do it for the taste of victory at the end. Remember, successful people do what other people are unwilling to do.

How bad do you want “it”? What are your goals? How are you reaching your goals? – How are you implementing them?

Here’s the door to your future, will you walk through it?
